Nitrous Oxide Sedation

For patients who are a little more apprehensive of dental treatment, we have sedation with nitrous oxide gas available.  It is true that some patients have a negative reaction to nitrous oxide, but for those that it helps, it really helps.  We believe that nitrous oxide is the safest form of sedation.  The patient is always receiving at least 35% pure oxygen, while the air we normally breathe is about 21% oxygen.  The effect of the nitrous oxide can almost instantaneously be altered by the dentist adjusting the oxygen ratio.  Nitrous oxide has allowed us to complete dental treatment for many patients whose fear of dentistry may have kept them away.
